Welcome to ReVision Editing, an editing service for both new and published writers of literary fiction, genre fiction, and memoirs aimed at adult, new adult (NA), and young adult (YA) audiences. My name is Tanis Nessler (she/her), and I’ve been editing professionally for over sixteen years. As a line editing specialist for fiction authors, I work in disappearing ink, improving your manuscript's clarity and flow without sacrificing your desired vision or unique voice. I understand that creative writing is a very personal experience and that allowing someone else to come along with you on that journey is daunting. But it's also important. After investing so much of yourself into your story, you're too close to it. You know what you meant to get on the page, but you can no longer see the words, the gaps. As an objective professional editor, I can “ReVision” your writing from a fresh perspective. I'm committed to providing you with a respectful, collaborative editing experience, and I consider it a privilege to be entrusted with your work.

My love affair with words likely began the moment I read Anne of Green Gables, sparked by that feisty redhead’s boundless imagination. My penchant for clear and engaging writing was likely clinched the moment I had to decipher my first Middle English novel! I attained my BA in Honours English from the University of Alberta and began my professional editing career immediately by copyediting books for a literary agent. I continued to gain experience both in-house and freelance while editing fiction, memoirs, book-length nonfiction, magazine articles, newsletters, government reports, and academic papers in a variety of disciplines. Happiest with creative writing, I began to specialize and opened the doors to ReVision Editing. I’m committed to continual professional development, taking editing and fiction craft courses regularly and reading related books and blogs daily to hone my fiction editing skills. I am not a writer myself, and my clients love that I don’t try to rewrite their story the way I would do it or change their writing to sound like mine.

Because I prefer not to hire employees or subcontract work, you can be assured that I’ll be the editor working on your project. All work is done electronically using Microsoft Word's editing functions, which allow you to maintain full control over all editorial changes.
